What are current style number plates?

Current style registrations have been issued since September 2001 and are the format used on all new UK vehicles today. They follow the format of two letters, two numbers, then three letters — for example, AA68 ABC. The two numbers in the middle identify the year and half-year of issue.

While they do show a year code, current style plates offer great personalisation opportunities in the three letters at the end. Many spell out names, words or initials and are widely available at very accessible prices.
